FAQ’s

WHAT

(is therapy? happens? do I say?)
Therapy is a commitment to yourself to show up, notice, acknowledge patterns, accept what is and what may not work for you anymore. It is a thread of willingness to allow for change.
I find that the authentic relationship between the client and therapist can be the site of real transformation. I find this to be a more radical and authentic way to practice. Think of me as a sherpa through the mountains of your journey. Ultimately, you possess everything you need, but I can help guide you towards the summit or provide some comfort through the coldest nights. This shit is hard. And also great. And hard. You don’t have to do it alone.

WHERE

(are you? am I?)
Thanks to the pandemic (said no one) I have the amazing ability to support others from afar. Yay! Virtual appointments make connecting easier for postpartum parents and for out of state consultations. I am currently offering a hybrid model of in-person and virtual appointments at my office in NE Portland.
I hope you are in the space to ask for and receive help. I’ll meet you there.

WHEN

(do you see clients? do I need therapy?)
I see clients Wednesdays-Fridays until 4pm.
I don’t like the words “need” or “should.” I try to keep them out of my vocabulary as much as possible. Therapy is for people who want it, not necessarily people that could use it. Some things you might notice where therapy could be useful are:
  • You’re doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results
  • You’re blaming other people for your mistakes, or expecting other people to change
  • You have adapted coping skills that are not benefiting you (this could range from scrolling your phone until 1AM, to behaviors that are harmful to yourself or others.)
  • You don’t feel like “yourself,” you want more out of life, you feel afraid of change
  • You are feeling depressed, anxious, or have had an unexpected life event that you can't seem to shake.
These are just some of the reasons for seeking therapy. There are a ton more. Please reach out if you have questions about what I treat.

HOW

(do I know we are a good fit? do I make an appointment?)
I offer free 15-minute Information sessions to see if we are a good fit. I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the most important part of therapy. If you don’t feel comfortable with me, why would you want to tell me anything? And if you don’t tell me anything then we’re just talking about the news or the weather and that’s fine, but it’s not really therapy. See my About page to learn more about me and how I work.
You can make an appointment request here. My practice is often full, but I sometimes carry a waitlist and I always have other therapists to recommend. I look forward to connecting with you.
